"A great way to have a taste of the backcountry and become enthused for a different environment to snowboard in. My abilities and confidence were low, he looked after me very well. Really professional, complete confidence in our guide, a fun day out." Felicity Byrnes, NSW, Australia

"...it is a fantastic experience and safe and easy to organise. As it is close to the ski field you can be back to meet family and friends for a wine at TC cafe at the end of the day" Graeme Moginie, Dunedin, NZ

"A wonderful day backcountry away from the madding crowds and in terrain and territory I hadn’t explored before. Wonderfully invigorating and satisfying. An excellent day." Joanna Poole, Wellington, NZ

Treble Cone Backcountry 1 day

Join us for an exhilarating touring experience which gives you a unique opportunity to go beyond the Treble Cone ski area boundary into the backcountry with the security of your own qualified guide.

We use wide skis with ski-touring bindings that have an “uphill” tractor mode. We can use the bindings with regular downhill ski boots. How does it work ? After we have finished a run skiing downhill, we attach “skins” to the bottom of our skis, and adjust the bindings so that we can “walk” uphill in our skis. Once we are at the top, we peel off the skins, reset the bindings for “downhill” skiing and off we go.

Snowboarders use snowshoes and ski poles (or split board) for uphill travel.
