The Wanaka based mountain guiding company, Aspiring Guides, is pleased to announce that the well known mountain guide, Marty Beare, has become a director of the company. He is the latest addition to a strong team of mountaineer directors and will be working with them to develop the business, as well as guide on Aspiring Guides’ many climbing programmes.
Marty has climbed and guided throughout the world, and is a well known figure in the New Zealand mountaineering scene. Originally from Northern Ireland, Marty grew up in Australia, and has been resident in NZ for almost 30 years. His background will gel nicely with the international mix of the four existing directors who already hail from NZ, Australia, South Africa and the UK.
Marty is well qualified for this important appointment, and brings with him vast experience and knowledge. A fully qualified IFMGA international mountain guide, he has been a senior guide at Mount Cook, a climbing instructor for several of the country’s leading outdoor centres, and an Antarctic guide for the USA’s National Science Foundation. He has also been instrumental in the development of outdoor leadership programmes both in NZ and overseas.
Fellow director Steve Bell said, “We are delighted that Marty Beare has joined us. He has wide ranging experience in the field, is great to work with and most importantly, our clients think he’s the bee’s knees. We also really like his ideas for growing the business and making Aspiring Guides even stronger.
“I am excited at this opportunity to become part of the management team of Aspiring Guides. My mountain-guiding role in the company remains my driving focus, but it will be great to also be setting the current and future direction of the company along with the current group of vibrant and professional directors.”
Aspiring Guides have been taking people into the mountains for 15 years. The company specialises in mountaineering ascents and climbing courses in New Zealand, and also runs expeditions internationally through its affiliation with Jagged Globe in the UK. Conditions in NZ’s Southern Alps are excellent as reported by Pete James who has just returned from an ascent of Aoraki/Cook via the Hooker Valley.
