Paul Scaife: Soloing the Challenge (05-Nov-2003) NEWSFLASH ! The 50 @ 50 Challenge continues... Paul Scaife is soloing the Challenge requiring supreme concentration and mental toughness. Martin Hawes has withdrawn due to illness. Paul Scaife phoned yesterday from Conway Peak claiming his 24th peak. He also climbed the South Face of Douglas with a group via a new route/variation (according to Allan Uren). First one in the bag ... a successful expedition ascent of Aoraki/Mount Cook via Porter Col for Dave, Phil & James last week. The group walked in and out via the Hooker. We will cross the Volta and Therma glaciers to Colin Todd hut and if time and weather permit, we will make an ascent of Mount Aspiring.
