Welcome to Spring!
AORAKI-Mt Cook Green light for the Linda glacier .. despite earlier speculation in the news, we are happy to relay that the Linda is in great condition and that up to 10 metres of snow has fallen since mid September.
Westland National Park Last week Murray and Milo accompanied Dave Blythe on a successful mission from Pioneer hut involving grade 5 alpine ice, a full moon, and a short weather window click here for photos . Just a few days prior James Hamilton led a ten day Steep Alpine Ice Course at Pioneer hut, which everyone enjoyed, despite lashings of new snow.
Mt Aspiring National Park Marty Beare reported good conditions on Mt Aspiring Oct 30th. Get updated conditions via our website (Mountain conditions link is top of our Home page). The Bonar is well covered. Click here for Nov 2 photos of the SW ridge route.
What happened to Marty's Changabang expedition? I guess the above note about Marty gave it away, so yes, his digits are still intact. It's a great read not to be summarised here ------ http://changabang2007.com/
Ama Dablam commences Nov 11 - led by Steve Bell http://www.jagged-globe.co.uk/exp/itinerary/ama+dablam.html
Inspiration W.N. Murray, leader of the Scottish Himalayan Expedition of 1951, writes about:
COMMITMENT
Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
Concerning all acts of initiative there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would have otherwise never have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no one could have dreamt would have come their way.
I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can...begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it."
