This backcountry and avalanche awareness course offers you:

  • A spectacular helicopter trip into the Southern Alps
  • Guided access to untouched terrain beyond Treble Cone
  • An opportunity to learn and practice backcountry skills -Avalanche awareness, Snowpack analysis and stability tests, Rescue techniques & transceiver use, Alpine navigation, Terrain assessment & selection
  • Three nights in our cosy backcountry hut
  • And an opportunity to have a lot of fun learning backcountry snowboarding and skiing techniques.
         

A strong skier/boarder? Ready to get serious about your backcountry skiing or snowboarding? Want to learn skills and avalanche awareness? This course in spectacular terrain is the one for you. 

Welcome to a classroom with a jaw-droppingly beautiful view. This backcountry touring course combines a pure backcountry experience with the opportunity to learn skills that you need to be safer in the backcountry. It will take you to a place few experience and turn you into a more skilled independent mountain traveller. 

Fly in to our private hut with stunning views of Treble Cone and Mt Aspiring. Enjoy cosy accommodation for up to six - sleeping bags, good lighting, cooking equipment, outside toilet and spectacular sunrises and sunsets supplied. Ski or snowboard in the renowned Harris Mountains and acquire skills as you tour. Tour out to Treble Cone using your new skills.

Price 

 

 

NZ$1250 (plus approx $190 for flight in) per person ex-Wanaka 
(currency conversion?)

Price includes NZMGA qualified guide, all meals and energy foods, cosy hut and bedding. The helicopter ride to the hut of approximately NZ$190 per person is an additional expense

Access   Fly-in, tour-out
Black Peak is a 5-7 hour skin/snowshoe from the summit of Treble Cone Ski Area or a 5 minute helicopter flight from the valley floor. The reasonable cost of flying in saves time and energy for the ensuing days' ski touring and instruction. We move around on snowshoes, if conditions dictate.
Guide Ratio  

1 guide : 5 clients maximum (minimum 2)

Prerequisites   Good fitness, previous ski touring or backcountry boarding experience
Weather contingency   A great bonus: delay the start of your trip by one day if the weather is bad.
Accommodation   Cosy Private Hut.
