New Personal Best

Everything was perfect

Daniel, Australia, April 2017

Grey's Peak was identified as a suitable goal. Tai kept a tight rein on us initially, and as he saw our level of skill, he released his grip. I never felt too restricted or completely out of my depth. I really appreciated his experience in this regard.  His level of knowledge was amazing, he quickly assessed where we were at, and was flexible in setting goals for each day. I felt in very safe hands, and appreciated his efficiency in getting us out of the hut each morning.  We traversed glaciated terrain, climbed a peak, did some skills work and the weather was mostly kind to us. Loved the helicopter in and out, and enjoyed the drive to the west coast. The whole package came together very nicely. Just being up in the mountains on the glacier was incredible. The landscape blew me away.

More Information

From the hardest routes to easy ascents, from challenging trekking adventures to personalized alpine instruction, from wilderness ski touring to waterfall ice climbing: we have an alpine playground that will meet your goals. Instruction or guided - the choice is yours.

When to go?

Trips can go all year but the best time is November-March for summer trips or June-October for ski touring or ice climbing at our private Black Peak Hut. Remember, alpine ice climbing goes long into the summer here with great snow and ice routes lasting well in January. Alpine rock routes are popular in the late summer.

Where to go?

We can customize a trip for you anywhere on the South Island. From a Darrans rock adventure to a group instruction course, let us organize your next New Zealand adventure. We have high alpine passes with all the food and sleeping bags in place - all you need is a light pack. This set-up is ideal for a wild team bonding adventure or you can go for a 1:1 instruction week followed by a Mt Aspiring guided ascent.

If you would like to tackle routes more technical than our standard peaks, then we can arrange a qualified and experienced private guide for you.  Mt Tasman, Douglas or Hicks are available to mountaineers with suitable significant experience.

Difficulty

Technical Difficulty

As this is a private guided trip you can make it as hard or easy as you like.  There are “walk up” peaks for first timers or you can tackle some of the hardest routes in the Southern Alps!  Glacier travel, crampon and ice axe skills, and technical rope work will all be required but don’t worry, for those new to the sport or needing a refresher, our guides will start right at the beginning.

Physical Difficulty

With just you and your guide you will be able to push yourself as hard as you like!  Alpine climbing is a strenuous activity and the better shape you are in the more you will be able to achieve.  We supply a complete physical workout program for those wanting to get in shape for their trip.

Private Guiding can come in all shapes and sizes.  We usually meet at our office in Wanaka at 8:30 on the first day of the trip.  Here you will meet you guide and do any last minute equipment and food organizing.  Though our correspondence we will have a good idea of you objectives and your guide will discuss with the trip plan as well as weather and conditions.

Aspiring Guides location in Wanaka is your secret weapon.  We have easy access to our local Mnt. Aspiring Nationa Park as well both the east and the west side of Mnt Cook National Park.  With a wide variety of venues to choose from we can design a course that will take advantage of where the weather and conditions are best.
