Avalanche Awareness Course

Professional.  Quite extensive for an intro.  [The guide] was always calm, thorough and clear with his intentions. Precise. Everyone I know who is into snowsports should invest in this knowledge.  I have prompted our members.

"Challenging trip that really gave me a great base of knowledge and experience to do it myself."

Backcountry Avalanche Awareness

I told a fellow skier it was the best $690 I had ever spent..

4 day Backcountry Avalanche Course

Tim did a great job presenting a wide range of information. Learned more about avalanches to start going out with like-minded tourers. It was great to get into the backcountry and apply the skills we were learning. Everyone should have an appreciation for the mountains and learn more about avalanches if they want to go out in that terrain.Great class, lots of information !

Backcountry Snowboard & Ski Touring Course

I liked the ability to stay on mountain at Rob Rosa hut during course and the fact that the course was more tailored for beginners. Good to get hands on experience and exposure to avalanche skills suitable to NZ & Australian conditions.  It has increased my confidence level (to a safe level) in moving around safely in avalanche terrain (or best still avoiding it all together)

Everything I'd dreamt of...

“The trip was everything I'd dreamt of ski touring the Southern Alps, and much more!  I enjoyed this trip soooo much!  I can't wait to return in a couple years.”

Bill Lingle, USA

Great teacher with the skills...

Backcountry Day Tour:  "Whit knew I was a bit nervous about this new adventure and was great in giving me confidence about the whole activity. He was friendly, approachable, great teacher with the skins. I loved being in an area where there were no other skiers around, but still felt safe."

Norway Skiing

"Exquisite snow that goes all the way to the beach! A thoroughly unique and memorable backcountry skiing experience! There are not many places left where outstanding wilderness back country skiing, combined with excellent logistics and accommodation can be had without paying a small fortune.  Somehow Whitney managed to pull it off."

Robrosa Backcountry Aug 2016

One of the reasons we went on a guided trip was to do things that we would not feel comfortable with doing on our own. We were also keen to learn more about backcountry travel, which Geoff facilitated well.  Good varied terrain to cater for a range of ski / board abilities. A well run, fun trip!

I had an awesome day.

“I had an awesome day.  Adrian was fantastic and did an amazing job of meeting the group's needs.  He found us great snow along with some great touring info.”

Anthony Dawkins, Australia

... the most awesome time

Treble Cone 1-day:  "Just wanted to say thank you very very much. I had the most awesome time out there, and the weather was awesome. Nico was great and very informative. Looking forward to doing it again!

Safe, professional & best of all, powder

Everything in the run up to the 1 day backcountry guiding with Aspiring guides was professional and prompt. The day itself started with meeting Whitney & Jimmy and 3 other guests at the base of treble cone. They provided us with probes, shovels and transceivers . After the guides checked about our previous experience we headed up the first of the 2 lifts we would be using that day. Once at the top of the saddle chair we jumped off piste and stopped for 30 minutes to do a quite transceiver refresher and check as well as a short reminder on what to do if a slide occurred. Over the course of the day we did a couple of long hikes and a few shorter ones, with the pace being set to the groups fitness so no one was left behind. The downs were obviously much sweeter than the ups and the guys found us some excellent fresh powder to play in. During a day like this you don't want to be in any situation where you have to use your gear, but when you do, that's when the guides really shine. We came across a slide that had come down not far from the lift on our return. As we all went down the safe slope to the side of it Whitney went to check it out. He signalled for Jimmy to join him because he got a signal. I've never seen anyone put on skins and traverse up a slope as quickly as that. Within minutes Jimmy and Whitney were searching the avalanche debris. Thankfully it was a rogue signal from a mobile that caused it, but it showed that if the worst was to happen, our chance of being rescued were pretty good & I think that's the main thing when doing a guided tour like this. It's easy to enjoy the powder and great snow when you're confident you're in safe and capable hands. Thanks guys & everyone at Aspiring guides. We had an awesome day!
