Safe, professional & best of all, powder
Everything in the run up to the 1 day backcountry guiding with Aspiring guides was professional and prompt. The day itself started with meeting Whitney & Jimmy and 3 other guests at the base of treble cone. They provided us with probes, shovels and transceivers . After the guides checked about our previous experience we headed up the first of the 2 lifts we would be using that day. Once at the top of the saddle chair we jumped off piste and stopped for 30 minutes to do a quite transceiver refresher and check as well as a short reminder on what to do if a slide occurred. Over the course of the day we did a couple of long hikes and a few shorter ones, with the pace being set to the groups fitness so no one was left behind. The downs were obviously much sweeter than the ups and the guys found us some excellent fresh powder to play in. During a day like this you don't want to be in any situation where you have to use your gear, but when you do, that's when the guides really shine. We came across a slide that had come down not far from the lift on our return. As we all went down the safe slope to the side of it Whitney went to check it out. He signalled for Jimmy to join him because he got a signal. I've never seen anyone put on skins and traverse up a slope as quickly as that. Within minutes Jimmy and Whitney were searching the avalanche debris. Thankfully it was a rogue signal from a mobile that caused it, but it showed that if the worst was to happen, our chance of being rescued were pretty good & I think that's the main thing when doing a guided tour like this. It's easy to enjoy the powder and great snow when you're confident you're in safe and capable hands. Thanks guys & everyone at Aspiring guides. We had an awesome day!
